The George Webber Memorial Lecture

In August 2013 Lord Sacks retires as Chief Rabbi of the Commonwealth and spiritual head of the largest orthodox synagogue body in Britain. He has held the post with wisdom and authority through turbulent times for Jews and earned world-wide renown for his writing on multi-culturalism, tradition, continuity and belief.

In the 22 years of his chief rabbinate, Jews’ sense of their own identity has evolved, with a greater investment in cultural activities that bring them together as a community as well as commitment to religious practice.
