Dan Jacobson, born in South Africa, was Professor of English at University College London until 1994. His other novels include The Rape of Tamar (1970) and The God-Fearer (1992).

Dan Jacobson is one of Britain’s most eminent writers with a string of awards to his name. Here he discussed his life in writing and launched his then new book All For Love, his first novel in 12 years. Set in Europe before WW1, it is both romantic and comic, fusing fact with fiction to evoke the luxury and absurdity of the Viennese court of the Emperor Franz Joseph.
