Trevor Phillips, the broadcaster and London Assembly chairman, is the chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality. Born in London to parents from Guyana, Trevor Phillips is a former president of the National Union of Students. He has spent most of his career in television, rising to become head of current affairs at London Weekend Television. He was chairman of the Runnymede Trust, a charity concerned with race issues, from 1993 to 1998.
