The Genius of Gershwin, a pre-festival performance

Issy Van Randwyck
Clive Rowe
Musical Director: Michael Haslam
Script: Stewart Permutt

Due to popular demand, Jewish Book Week have added a pre-festival performance of its opening night Gershwin event.

In our specially commissioned two-act tribute to George and Ira Gershwin, we celebrate the wit and melodies of the brothers from Brooklyn who created some of the most memorable songs ever written. With performers Henry Goodman, Issy van Randwyck and Clive Rowe; musical direction and arrangements by Michael Haslam and script by Stewart Permutt – join us for an unforgettable evening of dazzling songs and the scintillating stories behind them.

Henry Goodman is a multi-award-winning actor, twice recipient of the Laurence Olivier award and winner of the London Critics' Circle award. He has taught at many of London's leading drama schools.

Issy Van Randwyck is a Triple Olivier Award Nominee, whose recent theatre work includes Closer Than Ever (Offie Award Nomination) and Raving (Hampstead Theatre). Among other TV programmes she has appeared in Partners in Crime (BBC) and Christopher and his Kind (BBC). Her many recordings include The Glory of Gershwin (Mercury Records) with Larry Adler produced by George Martin.

With nearly 29 years in this business we call show, Clive Rowe's work spans theatre, TV and a teeny tiny bit of film. From comedy, drama and the classics to musical theatre, one could say that he has his fingers in many pies, which could account for his size. But his greatest love is singing, and they don't come much better than Gershwin.

Michael Haslam is a musical director, conductor and pianist. He is also a skilled arranger and orchestrator. He has worked extensively in the West End, at the National Theatre, and on tour in the UK and abroad.

Stewart Permutt is the winner of a Fringe First Award at Edinburgh for Real Babies Don't Cry. Other work includes Unsuspecting Susan starring Celia Imrie, Many Roads to Paradise and, most recently, Love and Lust In Lewisham.
