The White Road

Edmund de Waal

Accompany Edmund de Waal on his personal pilgrimage along The White Road, which tells the story of his obsession with porcelain – ‘white gold’ – and the lure it has held for those who have encountered it. Edmund de Waal's history ranges far and wide, from the Jesuit missionaries in 17thcentury China, via the palaces of Versailles and Dresden, to the chemist shops of 18th century Plymouth and the darkest moments of 20th century history.

Edmund de Waal is one of the world's leading ceramic artists. He is best known for his large scale installations, which are exhibited in many museums around the world. He writes widely on art and ceramics and his bestselling family memoir, The Hare with Amber Eyes, has been translated into nearly 30 languages and won many literary prizes.
