My Maimonides: Stefan Reif

"From Moses until Moses there was none like Moses."

Moses Maimonides, philosopher, commentator, jurist and physician, was born in Cordoba in 1135. To mark the 800th anniversary of his death, Professor Stefan Reif considered his towering achievements and his continuing influence on Jewish and Arab thinkers alike. He also revealed fresh insights from the Cairo Genizah.

Stefan Reif is Director of the Genizah Research Unit and Professor of Medieval Hebrew Studies at Cambridge University. His most recent book is The Cambridge Genizah Collections: Their Contents and Significance (2002).
