Thou Shalt Not Kill: Sara Paretsky
Who better than a thriller writer to explore the sixth commandment? Sara Paretsky launched her new book Fire Sale, which takes V I Warshawski – one of the most complex, compelling characters in modern crime fiction – back to the neighbourhood where she grew up, a place she would rather never have returned to. One of the world’s leading crime writers discussed with Maxim Jakubowski a career dependent on unnatural deaths.
Maxim Jakubowski is the director of the South Bank’s Crime Scene (a thriller-writing festival in July), owner of Murder One, the thriller bookshop in Central London and himself a writer of erotic literature.
Sara Paretsky grew up in rural Kansas. After a variety of jobs ranging from dishwashing to marketing, she now writes full time. She is a founder of Sisters in Crime, an advocacy group for women in the thriller field. She is the award winning author of several VI Warshawski books: Indemnity Only;Deadlock; KillingOrders; Bitter Medicine; ToxicShock; Guardian Angel;TunnelVision; Hard Time. A film based on V I Warshawski, starring Kathleen Turner, was released in 1991.
