Walking tour of Jewish Bloombsbury

Clive Bettington

The walk was an experience of Jewish Bloomsbury. Leonard Woolf was contextualised in this walking tour which went through the heartland of the Bloomsbury Circle. The haunts of Benjamin Disraeli, Gertrude Stein, Karl Marx, Lord Duveen and many other Jewish intellectuals who frequented the old British Library and the British Museum were discovered. The roles of Jews in the foundation of University College, London were brought to light and the stars who rose to fame at the Slade School of Art such as David Bomberg, Mark Gertler and the great poet Isaac Rosenberg.

The walk was led by Clive Bettington who brought the past to life through his anecdotes and fascinating stories.
