The Stuff of Legend

Inbali Iserles
Justin Somper
Julia Eccleshare

Award-winning writers Inbali Iserles and Justin Somper joined us to talk about their worlds of adventure beyond the familiar time and spaces. Somper spoke about his ship of Vampirates (Vampires and pirates in one) and we were the first to hear about his book, Empire of the Night. Iserles explored her modern day myths which bring exotic worlds to North London and even revealed the secret passages which can lead you there.

We had the unique chance to find out a little of the how and why these writers make their magic.

Inbali Iserles is a lawyer, keeper of exotic rodents and award-winning children’s writer. Her books are The Tygrine Cat and The Bloodstone Bird, which was named one of the ‘50 best winter reads’ in The Independent in 2009.

Justin Somper was a children’s books publicity consultant before turning his obsession with vampires to good use in his popular Vampirates series for children. He has produced six books in three years and shows no signs of stopping.

Julia Eccleshare has spent her working life to date within children's books as a critic, an editor, an author and a commentator. She is the children's editor of The Guardian.
