Flavours of Babylon

Linda Dangoor
Bea Lewkowicz

Following a screening of Sephardi Voices, in which seven Jewish men and women from Iraq, Egypt, Iran and Morocco tell their stories of coexistence and persecution, emigration and new beginnings, Linda Dangoor evoked the flavours of Babylon she has captured in her cookbook and what they meant to her.

Linda Dangoor has lived in the UK since the 60s. Artist, potter and writer, her interests in food and her Iraqi heritage have culminated in a beautifully designed cookery book: Flavours of Babylon.

Bea Lewkowicz is co-director of the filmed interviews: Refugee Voices and is currently the director of Sephardi Voices UK, an audio-visual oral history project which records testimonies of Jews from North Africa and the Middle East in the UK. Her many research interests and publications include: The Jews of Salonika: History, Memory and Identity.
