Community Buildings: Building Community

Alan de Botton
Alex Lifschutz
Debbie Klein

One of the causes of both happiness and misery is the quality of our environment. Alain de Botton tells us about his new Living Architecture project, dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of world-class modern architecture. Alex Lifschutz described the new Jewish Community Centre for London building and the impact that it will have. They spoke about the way beautiful buildings can alter our perception of self and community and the way we think about both ourselves and our communities.

Alan de Botton writes essays on themes ranging from love and travel, to architecture and philosophy. A founding member of The School of Life, his recent bestseller is The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work.

Alex Lifschutz is founder of an award-winning architectural practice in London with many projects in its repertoire: housing, offices, sports and community buildings, bridges and a green power station.

Debbie Klein is the Chairman of the JCC for London, Joint Chief Executive of Engine and Chairman of the advertising agency WCRS. She was recently named one of The Sunday Times Top 40 under 40 in Media.
