Charles Lewinsky’s portrait of Swiss Jewish life in his ambitious and panoramic novel Melnitz bears an astonishing resemblance to British provincial Jewish life in all its glory, saturated with familiar Yiddish idioms. Sharing Arnold Bennett’s sharp humour and acuity, Melnitz reads like a Swiss Five Towns. Charles Lewinsky will be discussing his engrossing novel with journalist Josh Glancy.
