The Aventures of Saul Bellow

Online, Virtual Event

Winner of both the Nobel Prize and the Pulitzer Prize, the late Jewish author Saul Bellow is considered to this day one of the giants of American letters. His novels have defined what it means to be American, giving voice to underrepresented groups and bringing inner-city culture into the rarefied world of literature.

This fascinating new documentary explores the strong links between the writer’s childhood as the son of Jewish immigrants as well as his later reputation for being a serial husband and the groundbreaking brilliance of his work. Featuring former wives and lovers, children and relatives, and some very famous peers (including Philip Roth and Martin Amis), The Adventures of Saul Bellow is the perfect companion to the master’s books.

Available to watch from Thursday 19th May 2022 at 6pm to Sunday 22nd May at 6pm.

This screening will be followed by a pre-recorded panel discussion with director Asaf Galay, biographer Prof. Zachary Leader, and academic Assoc. Prof. Saul Zaritt, in conversation with writer Prof. Ben Markovits.
