The Big Debate addressed the critical issues and challenges confronting Jews today.
Jonathan Freedland is an award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster. He writes a weekly column for The Guardian, where he is executive editor, Opinion. He is the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s contemporary history series The Long View and has also written seven books.
Howard Jacobson is a multi-award-winning writer of 13 novels and five works of non-fiction, as well as a regular contributor to major newspapers and journals, including a regular column for The Independent. He won the Man Booker Prize for The Finkler Question.
Melanie Phillips is a British journalist, broadcaster and author, best known for her column about political and social issues, which is currently appearing in The Times and her regular radio appearances on The Moral Maze. She also has a weekly radio show on Voice of Israel. A past recipient of the Orwell Prize for Journalism, she is the author of many works of nonfiction, the most recent of which is Guardian Angel: My Story, My Britain
Simon Schama is Professor of Art History and History at Columbia University. A writer, journalist and broadcaster, he has written and presented 40 films for the BBC, including The Story of the Jews (based on his two-volume work of the same name), Citizens and Rough Crossings. He recently curated The Face of Britain for the National Portrait Gallery and created the book and television series of the same name.
