Joseph Roth (1894-1939) was born to German-speaking Jewish parents in Galicia. He was the great elegist of the cosmopolitan, tolerant and doomed Central European culture that flourished in the dying days of the Austro- Hungarian Empire.
In this session, Michael Hofmann, who has dedicated himself for the past five years to translating Roth, read from and spoke about his passion for Roth’s work.
