Gail was born and brought up in Glasgow. She studied Chemistry and Computer Science at the University of Glasgow, before moving to London where she worked in the IT field as a computer programmer and analyst from 1969 until 1991. Gail holds a master’s degree in Hebrew & Jewish Studies from University College London. She has been Co-Chair of the Jewish Book Council since 2005.
Lucy Silver was born in Glasgow, studied literature, philosophy, art history and psychology, trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and counselled university students. She joined the Jewish Book Week team in 2008, has been Co-Chair since 2011. Lucy directed the festival from 2014–2018.
Claudia RubensteinFestival Director
Claudia is the festival’s director. Previously an arts’ consultant, her projects included history, current affairs and topical debates programming at the London Jewish Cultural Centre, and co-directing the 2015 Hampstead & Highgate Literary Festival at South Hampstead High School. Claudia also writes historical non-fiction. Her latest book, King of the North Wind, is a biography of Henry II.
Sarah FairbairnHead of Production
Sarah has been at Jewish Book Week, where she oversees the production of the festival, since 2012. Previously she was editorial manager at Ian Fleming Publications for four years, before spending eight months cycling solo through Europe. Sarah studied English at Bristol University.
Sarah GlucksteinFestival Coordinator
Sarah joined Jewish Book Week in 2018 as festival coordinator. She has worked in the third sector for sixteen years, including twelve years at the London Jewish Cultural Centre where she organised fund raising events and tours.
